What Does Personal Loan EMI Mean?
EMI stands for Equated Monthly Instalment. For a standard reducing-balance loan, the EMI generally contains both a principal component and an interest component.
At the beginning of the repayment schedule, a larger portion of the EMI can go towards interest. As the outstanding principal decreases, the interest component generally reduces.
See Where Your Repayment Goes
The EMI alone does not show the complete cost of a loan. Looking at principal, interest and total repayment together gives you a clearer picture of your borrowing commitment.
