Tax Estimate
NEW REGIMEA simple way to estimate your tax before filing
An income tax calculator is a financial planning tool that estimates the income tax payable on the basis of the income, deductions, tax regime and other information entered by the user.
Instead of manually working through multiple tax slabs and deductions, a calculator applies the relevant calculation sequence and presents an estimated tax liability. It can be useful when planning investments, reviewing salary structure, comparing tax regimes or preparing for ITR filing.
The result is an estimate rather than a tax assessment. Your actual liability can depend on the nature of income, special tax rates, applicable provisions, information reported in your return and the final processing of the return.
Understand the calculation step by step
The calculator follows a logical sequence so you can understand where your estimated tax figure comes from.
Calculate Income
Add salary and other taxable income included in the calculation.
Apply Deductions
Applicable deductions are considered based on the selected regime.
Find Taxable Income
The resulting amount becomes the basis for slab-wise tax calculation.
Apply Tax Slabs
Income falling in different slabs is taxed at the applicable rates.
Finalise Estimate
Rebate and cess are considered to arrive at the estimated liability.
How to use the Income Tax Calculator
You do not need to calculate each slab manually. Enter the relevant figures and let the calculator estimate the result.
Enter Your Income
Start with your annual salary and add other income that should be considered for the estimate.
Select Your Regime
Compare the New Tax Regime with the Old Tax Regime depending on your circumstances.
Add Deductions
For the Old Regime estimate, enter applicable deductions such as 80C and 80D where relevant.
Add TDS Paid
Enter tax already deducted or paid to see whether the estimate indicates additional tax or a potential refund.
Review Taxable Income
Check the taxable income figure before looking at the final estimated tax liability.
Compare Results
Review both regime estimates before making a tax-planning or filing decision.
Why should you use an income tax calculator?
Tax planning becomes easier when you have an estimate of your potential liability before the filing deadline.
Plan Your Finances
Understand how much of your annual income may go towards tax and plan your cash flow accordingly.
Compare Tax Regimes
See how deductions and different slab structures can affect your estimated tax under each regime.
Review TDS
Compare estimated tax with tax already deducted to identify a possible shortfall or excess payment.
Plan Eligible Deductions
Understand the potential effect of eligible deductions under the regime where they are available.
Prepare for ITR Filing
Use the estimate as a starting point for organising your income and tax records before filing.
Avoid Surprises
An early estimate can help you identify a potential tax payable amount before the filing process.
Income tax slabs for individuals
The calculator uses the applicable slab structure for the selected regime. The New Regime slabs below apply for AY 2026–27.
| Taxable Income | New Regime Rate | Old Regime Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Up to ₹4,00,000 | Nil | Depends on age |
| ₹4,00,001 – ₹8,00,000 | 5% | Depends on age |
| ₹8,00,001 – ₹12,00,000 | 10% | Depends on age |
| ₹12,00,001 – ₹16,00,000 | 15% | 30% above ₹10 lakh for below-60 taxpayers |
| ₹16,00,001 – ₹20,00,000 | 20% | 30% above ₹10 lakh |
| ₹20,00,001 – ₹24,00,000 | 25% | 30% above ₹10 lakh |
| Above ₹24,00,000 | 30% | 30% above ₹10 lakh |
Which tax regime should you compare?
Neither regime is automatically better for every taxpayer. The outcome depends on income, deductions, exemptions and individual circumstances.
New Tax Regime
DEFAULT REGIMEThe New Regime uses revised slab rates and generally offers a simpler structure with fewer deductions and exemptions. For AY 2026–27, the new slabs begin with a nil rate up to ₹4 lakh and extend to 30% above ₹24 lakh.
Old Tax Regime
DEDUCTION FOCUSEDThe Old Regime retains a wider range of deductions and exemptions, subject to eligibility and applicable conditions. It may be relevant for taxpayers who have substantial eligible deductions.
What income should you include in the calculation?
Your total tax position can involve more than salary. Understanding each income source helps you prepare a more meaningful estimate.
Salary Income
Include relevant salary income before applying the applicable standard deduction and other eligible components.
Interest Income
Interest from savings accounts, deposits and other sources may form part of taxable income depending on the applicable rules.
House Property
Rental and house-property income can affect the overall tax position after applicable computation.
Capital Gains
Capital gains can be subject to special tax rates and therefore may require separate treatment from ordinary slab income.
Business or Professional Income
Business and professional income may involve additional rules and should not always be treated like simple salary income.
Other Income
Other taxable receipts should be considered where relevant to arrive at a more complete tax estimate.
